The Department of Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Ecology and the JTH Forestry Research Center at New Mexico State University invites applications for a Master of Science (MS) position to assess the social dimensions of post-wildfire reforestation in the southwestern US.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in the natural or social sciences, studying subjects relevant to this position
  • Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders or communities on natural resources topics in the United States
  • Familiarity or experience studying or working on forest management or wildfire in the United States is desirable
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently

Scholarship Benefits:

  • This position will be fully funded for 2 years through a mix of research and teaching assistantships. This position is partially funded through the NSF Transformation Network’s research on wildfires and watersheds.
  • The ideal start date is January 2026, but other start dates will be considered up until August 2026.
